Our project

MovEUs is a multi-outdoor sports project among 7 different EU partner schools encouraging people to integrate physical activity into their daily lives and make them aware of active lifestyles.

 

In today’s hi-tech world, exercise in nature is necessary for keeping a balanced life and  improving people’s physical and mental health. Each kind of sport we do offers different benefits in various landscapes but also has different requirements in terms of equipments and skills.

 

Sport as a silent language unites people and creates team spirit. Many more people than just the participants of the project are going to be involved because we are taking part in big sport and social events, helping people with special needs as well as environmental organizations, supporting national parks and endangered species, embracing the notion of intergenerational solidarity, highlighting the importance of preventive health, showing young people entrepreneurial perspectives in the field of sport and tourism and provide further qualification for school staff and trainers / coaches as a necessity in a sustainable lifelong learning process.

 

IT skills such as handling new technologies (e.g. GPS), establishing a Blog and doing media as well as PR work will also be improved, although the priority of the project is set on special offline activities  in healthy landscapes.

 

The knowledge of foreign languages, especially English, will help participants to develop critical thinking, problem solving and communication strategies in order to develop European collaboration.

 

Civic learning and charity work is going to make participants more aware of their environment, health and their solidarity with poor people.

DISTRIBUTION OF TASKS

The main aim of our project is to develop physical, social, intercultural and speaking skills including appreciation of everybody / everywhere in the participating countries, self-determination and taking over responsibility. All schools will establish a team of teachers working closely with students, staff, headmasters, parents, associations, communities and national partners.

During the preparatory visit in France every school declared its willingness to work in the project on the tasks according to the prepared programme.

Each school has to deal with the same tasks during the periods between the meetings and present their findings during the meetings.

All schools will be supported by parents’ associations and different national agencies as well as by sports commitees and -organisations.

Furthermore we think that the democratic process will provide freedom for the organisation of the meetings. Every school has to prepare a work schedule for the meeting on its premises and is responsible for providing a good working environment with the necessary digital equipment.

Besides these common tasks each partner has to ensure that the results are saved and that sporty outdoor activities take place:

Estonia is responsible for printing the calendar on sport and a flyer on discgolf, Romania will provide and run a BLOG as well as print the first part of the recipe booklet, France will make a video about the Grand Raid, the Netherlands will make a film about the common European flashmob, Norway is responsible for printing the second part of the recipe booklet on healthy food and the Italian partner will print the final diary.

The German coordinating school is organising an outdoor SPORT FESTIVAL with the support of national partners and parents’ association. In addition to this the Germans are going to make a video on life underwater and create photobooks of every meeting during our two years’ common Comenius work and introduce the geocaching.

Every partner is responsible for publishing articles in their regional newspapers, for providing the base of hiding a stash (s.a.), and for the preparation and presentation of a green classroom lesson as well as a wellness lesson for teachers.

Our common task is to improve knowledge about basic human rights in Europe. With the project we will develop central skills for team spirit, skills in communication and media use and the ability to show tolerance and acceptance of others, this being the key if we want to achieve unity.

 

COOPERATION AND COMMUNICATION

The main means of communication will be Internet based messengers such as Facebook whenever necessary, but at least once a month – monthly letter,  e-mail contact between coordinators and project meetings. The language of communication between all partners will be English.

 

Contact between students will be made through the exchange of e-mails and participating in e-networks such as Facebook and Twitter, not to forget the BLOG provided especially for our project.

 

Furthermore visits during the holidays help to keep the contacts between the partners and lead to a better cooperation.

 

Another helpful mean for checking the results of the project are checklists the aspired results can be controlled with. In addition it will be helpful to design a timeline including the single steps of our common work during the first meeting. So we we have a generally binding reference to see where we are, how long it will take us, whether the products will be finished in time and if not, how we can support each other.

 

During each working meeting the coordinators and the headteachers of the schools take part in the “Teachers’ Chat” where the meetings get evaluated, problems get solved and the further steps of work are planned.

To get especially the students into contact to each other we will use game based learning (edutainment)  – exergames are an efficient tool to inspire physical activity and provide fun as a sustainable solution to fight e.g. obesity. These digital games get more and more important in the sector of physical activity.

 

The successful end products, the local media response to the project and activities of pupils will show effective cooperation between the participating institutions.

 

PARTICIPANTS’ INVOLVEMENT

Participating students and teachers will have to deal with certain issues that will be brought together and presented during the meetings. Students of different grades – because of the different types of school – will be involved in the exchanges and activities at all. School reporters (if available, otherwise students who are good at media work) will be integrated in the work by writing articles for the school magazines and the local papers. Students will have to take photos, work on them and arrange them to prepare calendars, brochures and PowerPoint presentations in their IT-lessons. During their Art lessons they will take, adapt, select and arrange pictures with sports content for the calendar, the flyer and the booklets.

In addition to this learners and teachers who took part in the working meetings should function as multipliers and present their experiences, findings and results in an appropriate way at their home schools during the lessons as well as in the staff meetings. Moreover students are involved in planning and preparing the trips to the working meetings and they will have support teachers and organisations in planning the activities at their schools when it is the location for the meeting Doing research on entrance fees, finding sponsors, decorating the school building, providing host families etc.).

 

Teachers (English, PE,  Arts, Mathematics, German, Geography, Social Science, IT and Economics) will help to prepare the above mentioned products. They will exchange and evaluate experiences of their work at schools, plan and prepare the lessons and seminars on special topics and plan the trips together with the students.

 

The head teachers will improve their knowledge of school management taking part in the meetings by talking to their colleagues, the teachers and the students and by visiting the schools .

 

Students, parents and teachers will take an active part in the constant evaluation of the project by meeting at special occasions at school referring to the programme (parent meetings, school council meetings etc.).

 

PE teachers will take part in further qualification seminars (e.g. on rope skipping, long distance run, cross country skiing, alpine skiing and swimming) provided in different countries during the working period.

Teachers and sports coaches prepare and guide sporty students and disabled kids for the Rennsteig Run and help to establish training programmes for sporty as well as overweight and obese students.

 

INTEGRATION INTO ONGOING ACTIVITIES

The project focuses on pupil involvement as well as on teaching and management issues.

Students of each school will work on subjects such as Ethics, Geography, Social Science, English, IT, Music, Arts and  Physical Education on special topics referring to the topic “S.O.S. MovEUs”

 

Arts: logo / mascot, calendar, stickers,sculptures

Geography: environmental research, view on differnt landscapes and geographical conditions

Home economics: healthy food

Ethics / Social Science: cultural background and living conditions of minorities, values, stereotypes, using the EU calendar

English: providing language material, communicating language

Music: flashmob (rhythm), rap

PE: work on balance, concentration, coordination and endurance as the ground for complex types of sport, flashmob

IT: media work such as homepages, blog, emails, wiriting the diary, creating the calendar and the booklets /flyer

Biology: endangered species, obesity, first aid, healthy food

School magazine: extracurricular public relation work

Teachers and school administrations will work on the topic sports as “Democratic Education”, reform pedagogic work and try to integrate their findings into school development (e.g. special sports classes).

 

Because of the different types of schools (different ages of the students) there should be found the balance to move them to the schools and to do special educational topics: the younger ones e.g. have to create and learn the rap and do research on healthy food whereas elderly ones will participate in the half marathon or prepare the sculptures and the blog work.

Furthermore the project should be an important basis for further projects in each school. It should help to create multilateral and / or bilateral exchanges. By the end of the two year Comenius period, each participating school should be able to organize additional exchanges or projects perfectly.

 

EVALUATION

short term evaluation:

Every meeting and its previous working period will be assessed by all participants in different ways. In the end of every meeting there will be a discussion about what was good and what was not. To make the next meeting better we will have to find the reasons for those parts which were not the best (Feedback sheets or questionnaires should be filled in by the participating students and teachers). Upon return to our schools, students will write articles (public relations) for the school magazines (including interviews), the home pages, regional papers etc. Furthermore there will be a forum at a provided site in the internet (BLOG), where all participating students can talk about the meeting itself and its results.

 

long term evaluation:

After the first year there will be an evaluation of the development of the common project. Every partner has to give a written statement of what the work between the partners was like. What was very important and what we should focus on should be noted then. We will present our statements during the fifth meeting in Estonia. The meeting should be used to discuss agreements and – what is more important –  different points of view on special topics to reach a mutual conclusion, which will help our project work in a better way. In addition to this the results will be presented on our BLOG, so that every member of every school will get an idea of the ongoing activities and probable changes during the second year.

 

And – of course – there will be a final evaluation at the end of our project. All participants will have to fill in a complex evaluation sheet. They should evaluate the main parts of our work, the results, how each participating school fulfilled their role and what we should aim at for later projects and ongoing activities after the common Comenius project.
